Sector hopes for steel from Mittal

The mood of ArcelorMittal investors has turned nervous. In the past six weeks, shares in the world’s biggest steelmaker have fallen by about a fifth relative to the index of all quoted stocks worldwide, in contrast to the two years previously when they outperformed this index by more than 120 per cent.

Explaining the selling pressure are investors’ concerns that the steel industry might be heading for a significant slowdown because of global economic strains.
