Josef Ackermann, Deutsche Bank's chief executive, yesterday said the credit crunch was at "the beginning of the end" as banks and regulators have taken action to deal with the crisis and many businesses were slowly returning to normal.

Mr Ackermann's comments, in an interview with the Financial Times, came as JPMorgan Chase helped major US indices to a winning start with second-quarter results ahead of expectations.
