The Japanese government will issue an additional Y16,900bn ($175bn) in new bonds this fiscal year, concentrating sales in the shorter maturities amid concerns about oversupply in longer-dated bonds.

This brings the total amount of issuance, including refinancing bonds, to Y149,204bn for the year started April, an 8.2 per cent increase from fiscal 2008.
