Pound responds to upbeat housing data

The pound advanced yesterday as UK housing data provided a further sign that the worst of the economic slowdown might be over.

Figures from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors revealed that house prices fell at the slowest annual pace since November 2007, echoing other recent indicators that the UK housing market might be stabilising.
