Be wedded to your spouse, rather than your domicile

Foreign nationals who are married to British citizens and live in the UK are being encouraged to reconsider their tax position as non-domiciled residents to gain more favourable treatment on inheritance tax (IHT), accountants said this week.

As the rules stand, many married "non-doms" face tougher treatment for IHT as they are not fully exempt from paying the tax on assets they inherit from a spouse.
