The US wants North Korea's neighbours - particularly China - to put more pressure on Pyongyang to return to negotiations about its nuclear ambitions.

But in spite of the impasse in the six-party talks, Washington remains optimistic that the negotiations will resume in Beijing imminently, perhaps as soon as this month.
