Venezuela pledged yesterday to combat diamond smuggling and comply with the United Nations-backed Kimberley Process to curbthe illegal trade in conflict diamonds.

A Venezuelan delegation led by Ivan Hernandez, deputy mines minister, turned up unexpectedly at KP talks in Brussels and presented an annual report and statistics on its diamond output and exports.
