Singh offers aid to Air India

Manmohan Singh, Indian prime minister, has offered to provide financial aid to keep the struggling national flag carrier Air India aloft, but only if the airline undertakes radical cost-cutting.

The offer came as Mr Singh met Arvid Jadhav, the new chairman and managing director of Air India.
