Schering profits slide 23%

Schering-Plough said on Tuesday its third-quarter earnings fell sharply, hurt by special charges and declining demand for its two cholesterol drugs.

The Kenilworth, New Jersey-based drugmaker earned $551m, or 34 cents per share, 23 per cent less than the $713m, or 45 cents per share, it made in the year-earlier period.
