Unions representing more than 7,000 workers at Opel’s Spanish plant in Figueruelas, near Zaragoza, on Tuesday voted for an initial four one-day strikes against plans by Magna to scale back production at the facility.

The action, scheduled to start next Wednesday, follows weeks of talks between Magna representatives, Spanish politicians and labour leaders. In contrast, UK union Unite, said last week it had struck a deal with Magna to keep producing cars at General Motors’ two UK plants beyond 2013, saving hundreds of jobs.
