CPI data add to pressure for US rate cut

US inflation cooled slightly last month but not enough that the Federal Reserve is likely to be convinced that price pressures are under control, according to economists.

Government figures showed consumer prices rose 0.1 per cent in July, the smallest gain in eight months after an increase of 0.2 per cent the previous month.
