Sir, Alan Beattie ("A complex curse", November 13) demonstrates clearly why the drift to bilateral free trade agreements (FTAs) in the Asia-Pacific has been problematic. They are indeed adding unnecessary complexity to the regulation of international trade as well as structuring more preferentialism into the world trade system.
