Britain confident of international debt relief agreement

Britain is confident that as president of the G8 group of industrialised nations, it can secure international agreement on debt relief for the countries affected by the Asian tsunamis.

However the UK, which formally assumes the G8 presidency this week, is keen to ensure the money is not a substitute for direct aid to countries such as Sri Lanka that are not indebted.
