Big five EU states in drive to curb illegal immigrants

Europe's five biggest economies will on Monday discuss plans for fresh curbs on illegal immigration, including fingerprinting of visa applicants, and tougher screening at airports.

Nicolas Sarkozy, France's interior minister, will use the meeting at Evian to show he is getting tough on illegal immigration a central plank in his bid for the French presidency in 2007.
