George W. Bush bequeaths an unhappy foreign policy legacy to the world - and to his successor. But he deserves credit on one issue: an extraordinary effort in the international fight against HIV/Aids. Whoever replaces him in the White House should continue his work, while modifying some of the details of his programme.
Since 2003, Mr Bush has personally championed efforts to tackle HIV through a $15bn programme over five years - far more than his predecessor, Bill Clinton, ever committed. Mr Bush's support for development aid in general is reflected in the warm welcome he has received on his travels in Africa this week.
