Dark days for old-style bulbs

Almost 130 years after being patented by Thomas Edison, the conventional light bulb is heading for the recycling bin.

A European Commission recommendation to outlaw the incandescent light bulb from 2012 might have marked a setback for companies such as Osram, the Siemens' affiliate that has produced light bulbs for more than a century.
