UK set to commit to high-speed train travel

The UK could become the next European country to make a significant commitment to high-speed train travel after the country’s rail infrastructure operator launched a strategic review of the case for a new route network.

Network Rail said it would look at building five new lines north and west of London when the area’s existing routes start to reach their maximum capacity, probably by 2025.
