House price inflation lowest in two years

House prices declined for a third consecutive month in January taking the annual rate of price inflation to its lowest in two years, according to the Nationwide.

The lender said prices dipped 0.1 per cent, less than analysts expected but taking the annual growth rate to 4.2 per cent, the weakest since December 2005. On the less volatile three-month on three-month measure, prices had fallen 0.3 per cent.
