Darling presents first ‘carbon budget’

Renewable energy and energy efficiency were the main beneficiaries from the green measures in the Budget, with about £1.5bn planned for low-carbon industries.

The Chancellor also presented the first “carbon budget”, pledging the UK would cut its greenhouse emissions by 34 per cent by 2020, compared with 1990 levels.
