Gas bills forecast to rise 65% on oil price

Gas bills are likely to rise by 65 per cent, hitting £1,000 a year for the average household, if oil prices stay at their present levels, according to a report commissioned by Centrica, the owner of British Gas.

Electricity bills are also expected to rise sharply because of the use of gas for power generation.
