Outage leads traders to rethink single system

London’s stockbrokers were forced to twiddle their thumbs on Monday, as trading on the main stock exchange shut down.

European stock markets opened sharply higher on Monday, buoyed by the weekend rescue of the US mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
