Nicholas Sarkozy on Tuesday called on Iran to release a young French student arrested last week describing the spying accusations against Clotilde Reiss as “fanciful in the extreme”.

The 23-year-old Ms Reiss was preparing to leave Iran after spending five months as a French language teaching assistant at the University of Isfahan when she was arrested on spying charges on July 1.
