Recovery spells danger for Brown

Exports are up, manufacturing output is up, property sales are up and the FTSE 100 index is up. The question intriguing Westminster is whether Britain’s fledgling recovery might start to push up the poll ratings of Gordon Brown.

Lord Mandelson, the business secretary, claimed the positive economic indicators were “good for Labour”, but the politics of economic recovery are far from straight­forward.
