Warm weather helps Next lift profit guidance

The recent bout of sunny weather has warmed consumers to the idea of spending again, according to Next, which lifted profit guidance for the year after a better first quarter than expected.

Simon Wolfson, chief executive of Britain’s second-largest outfitter in value terms, said the numbers were “almost too good” as he delivered underlying sales down just 2.3 per cent in the 14 weeks to May 2.
