BBC slashes spending amid fears of funding crisis

Worries that the recession might spawn a rise in licence fee evasion have contributed to a decision by the BBC to seek further spending cuts, senior executives said on Thursday night.

An economic downturn is also likely to hit sales of DVDs and audio books, diminishing the revenue secured by BBC Worldwide, the broadcaster’s commercial arm.
