Bernanke remarks lift US stocks

Reassuring comments from Ben Bernanke soothed investors’ nerves on Wall Street on Wednesday and helped stocks edge upwards following one of the biggest one-day falls since 2001.

After a tentative start the market began to rally with some conviction as the Federal Reserve chairman said in testimony to Congress that there had been no material change in his outlook on the economy.
