Corn dispute highlights transatlantic split

President George W. Bush and Angela Merkel, German chancellor, promised "firm commitment" to reigniting the Doha round of world trade talks in Washington last night.

Mr Bush also promised attention to the issue of climate change, saying thatthe US recognised "there'sa problem" and that the issue had "global consequences". Ms Merkel said there had been progress on climate change during the meeting.
