There were few surprises in the energy white paper – something the industry was thankful for. Energy companies were pleased about the government’s clear support for nuclear power, and its pledge to make a decision on whether to back new reactors by the end of the year.

There was a warm welcome for changes to the system of government funding for renewable energy that should encourage more investment in offshore wind farms and wave power.
