Distinct seasons, polite people

When, in 2006, Irish publishing company International Living organised its first seminar for expats interested in finding out whether Uruguay suited them as a retirement destination, eight people signed up.

A year later, the company repeated the exercise and it attracted 10 times as many participants, mainly pre-retirement couples from North America keen to find out about what the small country – squeezed between Brazil and Argentina – had to offer.
