Emirates soars to record annual profits

On the day the Airbus A380 made its maiden flight over Toulouse, the Gulf carrier that has bought 45 of the super-jumbos, more than any other airline, announced record full-year profits.

Emirates, owned by the government of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, reported a 49 per cent rise in net profits to $637m. It airline carried 12.5m passengers, an increase of 2.1m.
