Heat turned up over mobile phone wireless access

Mr OtelliniIntel turned up the heat in the battle over the future of mobile phone technology by lambasting "self-serving" mobile phone operators who are refusing to support the WiMax next- generation platform, writes Maija Palmer in London .

Intel has been a strong supporter of WiMax , which is one of two competing standards for the next - fourth - generation of mobile phones. It has invested billions of dollars in 30 WiMax operators over the past few years, including $1.6bn in Clearwire, the US WiMax operator.
