CRH weakened by slowdown in building works

The slowdown in construction activity pushed interim pre-tax profits down 82 per cent at CRH, the Dublin-based building materials group.

Sales fell 15 per cent from €9.7bn to €8.3bn (£7.3bn), in spite of signs of stabilisation in Poland and Switzerland and a pick-up in road building prompted by the US fiscal stimulus scheme.
