Right set to gain lion’s share of seats

Fresh from an electoral victory, the centre-right European People’s party was searching for alliances on Monday that would allow it to press its agenda on issues ranging from the next Commission president to the economic crisis.

The EPP was set to emerge from elections with more than 260 seats, the largest haul of any group, and was seeking partners to push that above the 369 required to forge an absolute majority in the 736-seat European parliament.
