Spectre of slowdown haunts Las Vegas tech fair

The prospect of a consumer spending slowdown in the important US market clouded the upbeat mood yesterday at the start of the global consumer electronics industry's biggest annual jamboree in Las Vegas.

At the same time, sharply falling prices for some consumer gadgets and slow development of the digital services needed to stimulate demand for more devices are forecast to cause parts of the US market to shrink this year compared with 2007.
