Morocco elections marred by low turnout

Morocco’s moderate Islamist party made only modest gains in parliamentary elections marred by a record low turnout, according to interior ministry results released on the weekend.

The Justice and Development Party (PJD) on Sunday charged that vote buying had taken away its victory, after it came second to Istiqlal, the traditional nationalist party and government coalition partner, which won 52 seats in the 325-member assembly.
