Volkswagen yesterday suspended merger negotiations with Porsche in another twist in the power struggle between Europe's largest carmaker and the debtridden sports-car maker that is its biggest shareholder.

Some of VW's leading figures over the weekend accused Porsche's management of obstructing talks over the integration of the sports-car maker into VW as its 10th marque, a move that had been agreed upon by Porsche's family owners.
