Yahoo backs common web IDs

Yahoo on Thursday seized the initiative from Microsoft and Google by backing a new web standard that allows users to consolidate their web identities and use a common log-in across websites.

The internet company’s support for OpenID represents a significant boost for the standard – the addition of Yahoo’s 248m active registered users more than triples the number of OpenID accounts to 368m.
