US trails Asia on accountability

US companies are the worst at managing and accounting for their social and environmental impact, lagging behind both their European and Asian competitors, according to a ranking of the Fortune Global 100 to be published today.

Wal-Mart, AIG, Time Warner and Berkshire Hathaway score among the bottom 20 in the ranking, which seeks to measure how seriously companies take non-financial factors in running their businesses.
