Abbott pulls new HIV drug in Thailand

Abbott Laboratories, the US pharmaceutical group, is to withhold a new HIV treatment from Thailand in retaliation for Bangkok’s decision to override patents on its existing medicines.

In a letter last month to Thailand’s food and drug administration, Abbott said it was withdrawing applications to register new drugs, warranted by Bangkok’s disrespect for western companies’ intellectual property.
