Water pollution ‘worsening across China’

Water pollution is worsening in urban areas across China, despite heavy investment in new wastewater treatment facilities, a senior government official said on Tuesday.

Cities need to do more to conserve and treat water if they are to avoid crises, according to Qiu Baoxing, vice minister of construction. “This is a critical point in time - we are at a crossroads,” he said.
