Shenzhen mayor in corruption probe

The mayor of Shenzhen has been detained in connection with a Chinese communist party investigation in south China, the official Xinhua News Agency reported yesterday.

In a one-line dispatch citing an official from the party’s disciplinary inspection commission, Xinhua reported that Xu Zongheng, 54, was being investigated for a suspected “serious breach of discipline”. The commission has the power to detain party members and compel them to cooperate with investigators.
