UN considers fresh N Korea sanctions

Diplomats at the United Nations hope to start drafting a resolution on North Korea this weekend that might for the first time name individuals in Kim Jong-il’s regime as targets of sanctions.

Representatives of the five permanent Security Council powers and Japan and South Korea met throughout this week after the 15-member body expressed “strong opposition and condemnation” towards Pyongyang’s second nuclear test at an emergency meeting on Monday.
