Groups ‘paid’ for data on workers

More than 40 construction companies paid to use a secret database allegedly to “vet” job applicants, the Information Commissioner’s Office said on Friday.

The database containing sensitive information on more than 3,000 workers including personal relationships, trade union activity and employment history was compiled by the Consulting Association, the ICO said.
