Home sales fall to record low

The US economy showed further signs of weakness yesterday as data indicated that pending home sales fell to a record low, factory orders declined and service sector activity contracted, reports Alan Rappeport.

The stricken US housing market showed no sign of bottoming as the closely watched index of pending home sales dropped by 4 per cent in November. Pending home sales in November declined by 5.3 per cent on the year.
