New Look, the purveyor of cheap and chic fashion, has become the latest high street retailer to consider a return to the stock market.

The group, owned by founder Tom Singh and private equity groups Apax and Permira, is understood to be in the early stages of exploring an initial public offering. It was taken private in 2004.
