Nestlé defends melamine record

Nestlé, the Swiss food group, defended on Wednesday its practice of allowing small amounts of the melamine in food as Saudi Arabia’s food authorities said they had found traces of the industrial chemical in the Swiss food group’s milk products.

The finding underscores the increasing pressure that food companies are under from governments around the world to convince consumers of the safety of their brands following the melamine scandal that broke three months ago in China.
