UK film industry enjoys £100m tax boost

The British film industry received over £100m in tax relief last year, according to the Treasury, which greeted the figures as a vindication of its new approach to supporting the industry.

But critics said investment in British films had suffered as a result of changes to tax relief in recent Budgets. These focused support on production companies instead of investors, after evidence emerged that the tax breaks were were being abused in avoidance schemes.
