Sudan threatens to expel peacekeepers from Darfur

Sudan has warned the African Union that it will have to withdraw its 7,000-strong peacekeeping force from Darfur when its mandate expires at the end of this month if it attempts to subsume itself into a larger United Nations force.

Kofi Annan, United Nations secretary-general, said yesterday Sudan would put over 2m war victims at further risk if it compelled the AU force to leave.
