Strong results lift Credit Suisse

Credit Suisse strode ahead in otherwise cautious European equity markets on Thursday after reporting quarterly profits that were significantly stronger than expected.

The bank earned SFr2bn after tax in the first three months of its financial year – twice as much as analysts had estimated. Its shares rose 8.8 per cent to SFr43.20.
