Royal Worcester is placed in administration

Royal Worcester and Spode, the maker of porcelain founded in the reign of King George II, was placed into administration yesterday, becoming the latest British businesses to succumb to the deepening downturn.

Known for its delicately painted blue and white crockery, the Worcester-based company has been in an almost constant state of restructuring in recent years as it struggled to sell high-end diningware amid a trend towards more casual dining.
